We have happy news to share.

Orissa’s well known writer and media commentator Prof. Mrinal Chatterjee, who is well known to the esteemed visitors to this site as our guest writer, has won the best paper award in the sixth National Science Communication Congress, held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat from 11-15 December 2006.

Science Communication Congress, a congregation of science communicators, academicians and journalists is organized every year in different parts of the country. The objective of the Congress is to map the present status of science communication, highlight the need for improved science coverage in mainstream media and devise ways to achieve that. This year the theme of the Congress was ‘Public Understanding of Scientific Research’ (PUSR). Over 30 papers were presented in the Congress, organized jointly by NCSTC, Indian Science Writers Association (ISWA) and Gujarat Council of Science City.

In his paper titled ‘Science- Media Interaction: Present status and Future prospect’ Chatterjee dwelt on the dismal coverage of science related topics in mainstream media and suggested ways to improve the coverage.

This year the Congress was attended by well known science communicators and communication specialists like Dr.Sung Kyum Cho of Chungnam National University, South Korea, Prof. Saroj Mishra, Dr. D. C. Goswami, Director, RRL, Jorhat, and Dr. Saroj Ghose.
