Conspiracy of Orissa Chief Minister against the State Language fails: Black Flag Campaign marches ahead

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik , following footprints of his father Biju Patnaik , has perpetrated his worst assault on the mother tongue of the people of the State by bringing in an amendment in Orissa Official Language Act, 1954 in the last session of the Assembly that has almost killed the Act and ruined the very purpose of creation of the province of Orissa.

Two fellows – Pradyumna Satpathy and Pabitra Maharatha – involved with the campaign from the beginning, who had volunteered to supply four flag-bearers everyday to campaign,a duty they had unfailingly performed, have been gained over to such nasty effect that, on July 16, the day fixed for resumption of the Black-Flag March if the CM must not have amended the amendment by then, shocked the people of the linguistic State by unauthorized statement to the Press that, as per resolution of Bhasha Andolan, the Black-Flag Campaign was postponed sine die.

This was clearly an official design executed through these two fellows to derail the campaign and to push the mother tongue of the people into further atrophy by enforcement of the wrongful amendment to the Act of 1954.

Whole of Orissa has rejected this evil design and the Black-Flag Campaign is going on with full vigor.

In order to show the scheming CM that Oriya race shall not rest till the Official Language Act is properly amended in the line he has been notified, a team of eight brave Oriya young men comprising Ranjan Kumar Das, Alay Samantaray, Jitendra Kumar Sahu, Naresh Beura, Nabakishore Das, Asish Khatua, and Pratap Mohanti started their campaign journey on 16.8.2018 from Satyabhamapur, the birthplace of KulaGourab Madhusudan Das, the father of this first ever linguistic State of India and reached Bhubaneswar on 17.8.2018 by walking over around 90 kms, an event that a young journalist and language activist Soumyaranjan Nayak , whose leadership has brought the headquarters of the CM’s home district Chhatrapur into the fold of Bhasha Andolan, presented live in social media ‘Face Book’.
