Arnab Goswami is anathema to dignity of Journalism: Bail should have been tagged to a fixed time

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Unless a bail to an accused is tagged to a fixed time within which he/she should establish innocence, the purpose of Law to curb crime by arresting an accused would continue to be defeated.

When Orissa High Court had granted bail to BJD legislator Pravat Kumar Tripathy he was released from the jail to extravaganza of a reception by his sycophants, posing as if the appropriate Court was wrong in remanding him to jail. The Court doesn’t know till now if he is guilty or not guilty. People are in dark.

The same extravaganza of a reception by his sycophants was marked when the Supreme Court granted interim bail to BJP propagandist Arnab Goswami, arrested in the matter of enforced death of a self employed person whose dues he was allegedly not clearing.

The Supreme Court should peruse the visual records of that extravaganza and be honest to determine whether or not the same was an act to show the strength of that accused to demoralize the Police that had arrested him.

The order being an interim order, we are yet to know on which exact ground the Supreme Court decided to hold the High Court wrong in not granting him bail. But, we are sure, the order of the Supreme Court had not empowered the accused to show such strength to the Police and/or to impress the public that, the lower judiciary including the High Court that had rejected his bail application was wrong.

The Supreme Court should take up its impact study and save us common Indians from Judges’ preference in allowing bail as they like.

As a journalist, I am inclined to say that, Arnav’s role and response to the so-called reception is anathema to dignity of journalism.

Medical Prescription in Mother Tongue essential for life-saving: Dr. Debasis Jyesthi

the NEWS syndicate

The most essential elixir for patients is medical prescription in mother tongue of the people, said eminent physician Dr. Bebasis Jyesthi, talking live on “importance of mother tongue in health care” on the 9th November from the digital platform of Bhasha Andolan, the day its celebrated Silent Black Flag Campaign reached 1671 days.

Citing an American Survey, he informed that, in 2006 alone, at least 7000 patients had died due to their inability to follow the prescriptions, the language of which was not their mother tongue. Similar survey, if conducted in Orissa, where prescriptions are issued in English to patients who do not know the foreign language.

Emphasizing that, the relationship between a physician and a patient should be exactly as the relationship between a mother and her child, Dr. Jyesti said, our doctors are born in our soil, grown up in our language. why should they not write the prescriptions in Oriya?

Dr. Jyesthi is well known for his humanitarian manners and love for the language.

His speech, delivered live in the ‘Bhasa Maapain Pade’ page of Bhasha Andolan in the Facebook, is put in YouTube channel of this site for perusal by whosoever has no access to the said page. (updated on 18 Nov.2020)

Authors of Orissa must wake up to save Oriya Language from official conspiracy : Prof. Ashok Maharana

theNEWSsyndicate

When in the British Raj Oriya language was threatened with extinction due to conspiracy of non-Oriya native servants of the mandarins from England, it is the authors of Orissa who woke up to the situation and forced the foreign rulers to create this province by honoring the people’s birthright to have official management of their affairs in their mother tongue.

After independence, despite creation and promulgation of Orissa Official Language Act (hereinafter called the Act) in 1954, our language is threatened with extinction by constant disuse in administration of the State, as non-Oriya functionaries rule the roost.

It is a matter of alarming concern and shame that our authors are showing no interest in saving our language from irrelevance, even as the Bhasha Andolan, addressed only to use of Oriya in governance of Orissa, has exceeded 1600 days and the Govt. run by fellows of anglicized mentality are keeping the Act defunct.

The authors are enriching our literature, no doubt; but literature cannot save a language from death, as has been seen in Pali and Sanskrit becoming dead languages due to disuse in governance.

These and many relevant observations come from Prof. Ashok Maharana, when on the 2nd November he addressed live from the digital platform of Black-Flag-Campaign (Bhasha Andolan).

For friends who might be missing this address in Facebook, we post it in our YouTube channel as placed below:

Arnab Goswami arrested. So what?

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Owner of Republic TV Arnab Goswami has been arrested this morning by Maharastra Police. BJP leaders and supporters, including those in right-wing media, condemn it as attack on Press. I am at a loss to understand how it is an attack on Press!

He has been arrested under allegation of factoring suicidal death of an architect by not paying his dues that amounts to Rs.83 lakhs. Local Police had closed the case, to which his family has been protesting. According to the architect’s daughter, the police had not investigated into the case in right earnest. This moved Maharastra’s Home Minister to find out the truth through the Crime Branch of Maharastra Police. Thus, they have taken him to ascertain the details of payment he has, as per his claim, made to the architect. Where is the wrong? If anything, this is a very laudable humanitarian step taken by the Maharastra Home Minister, Mr.Anil Deshmukh.

If Arnab can show the proofs of his payment to the architect, he would be set free. His supporters should ask him to cooperate with the investigators and convince them that he has honestly paid the architect his dues in due time and before he committed suicide.

The alleged offense being criminal in nature, Arnab’s arrest cannot be viewed as attack on Press.

Sad that Orissa Govt is not obeying its own Official Language Act: Prof. B.N.Patnaik

theNewssyndicate

It is sad that, the Government of Orissa is not obeying its own Official Language Act, when use of the language of the people in administration is self-validated and above all questions in a democracy, said India’s famous Professor of Linguistics Dr. Bibudhendra Narayan Patnaik, who, after 22 years in IIT, Kanpur, advises Govt. of India in language matters in the Council for the promotion of Indian Languages. He is in the Working Group on Language Development and Book Promotion for Formulation of the Eleventh Five-year Plan and also in the Committee of Experts to Consider Future Demands for Categorization of Languages as Classical Languages. To him,Govt. of Orissa is entirely in fault by not serving the people in Oriya despite the State having a Law for this since 1954.

Extending wholehearted support to Subhas Chandra Pattanayak, founder of Bhasha Andolan, which is spearheading the demand for governance of Orissa in Oriya, Prof. Patnaik underlined that, the administration shall have to run in Oriya Language, as otherwise, the the general public would continue to be debarred from the fundamental right to expression as well as from informed participation in democracy. He lauded Sri Pattanayak and his friends for the unique movement that has reached 1657 days absolutely peacefully to educate the govt. of the day on how to implement the Law enacted by the first Assembly to use Oriya as the official language in Orissa.

The Silent Black Flag Campaign of Bhasha Andolan having been transformed into digital form under exigencies of COVID-19, an illustrious scholar in the matter is discussing the issue ‘LIVE’ in Facebook, every Monday, highlighting why the movement is justified in its demand.

Dr. Patnaik thus speaking on October 26, stated that, disuse of mother tongue in administration adversely affects the most disadvantaged poor and helps middlemen to prosper. The Govt. is not only legally bound to run Orissa in Oriya, but also is morally bound to do so. Penal action against whosoever contravenes the Language Law and debars the people from their language rights is a necessity, he said.

From Facebook-live, Prof. Patnaik’s speech is reproduced here through YouTube :

Oriya Language created Orissa and therefore Orissa must be ruled by Oriya Language

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seems to have developed a wrong notion that governance of Orissa in Oriya depends upon his mercy. His press-note of December 17 and full page display advertisement in major broadsheets of today force us to arrive at this apprehension.

In his December 17 press note it was declared that he had held a meeting with the five members of the ministerial committee on that day for the purpose of “strictly implementing the Orissa Official Language Act, 1954 in official and non-official level” to facilitate which a website has been floated by the government. In the full page multi-color advertisement in broadsheet dailies today, this is intriguingly missing.

The advertisement is designed to tell the people that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken historical steps to save and develop Oriya language, and has enumerated the steps he has taken. This is blatant lie. Neither he nor his government has executed any single item claimed to be “historical” in the official advertisement. The entire advertisement is nothing but false propaganda. What a shame it is, that, the people of Orissa are taken for granted by their Chief Minister! Read more →

Navakalevara: Legends and reality

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Legends are the most misguiding mischief aimed at superimposing lies on reality so that indigenous people of an occupied land are kept too dazzled to see the dark face of the rulers and the class of exploiters can keep its victims subjugated to its authority, while forcing them to forget the heroic history of evolution of their own philosophy of life, their own splendid spiritual realizations, their own socio-economic uniqueness, their own ancient culture, their own valorous past, their own way of social integration and their own civilization.

We see this mischief galore in the context of Navakalevara of SriJagannatha.

So, here, we are to rip apart the legends and bring the reality of the Navakalevara to light, as thereby alone we can reach the lost uniqueness of the people of Orissa.

We will use Puri Sankaracharya’s self-proclaimed authority over Navakalevara to proceed with our purpose.

Samaja in Maze of Forgery: Two former Ministers of Orissa – Lingaraj Mishra & Radhanath Rath forged the WILL of Gopabandhu; Both benefitted till their death; SoPS continues to Loot

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

The Oriya daily SAMAJA founded by late Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, to which, out of their love and reverence for the great humanitarian leader, the people of Orissa had and have been giving their financial and moral support, is in a menacing maze of forgery and loot.

Sadly, two of Gopabandhu’s trusted men – Lingaraj Mishra and Radhanath Rath – who, because of being known so, had the opportunity of becoming cabinet ministers in Orissa, were the masterminds and/or makers of the forgery from which the paper is yet to be salvaged.

Both of them – Lingaraj and Radhanath – had partnered with each other in forging the last WILL of Gopabandhu to grab the Samaja, which being Gopabandhu’s paper was of superb credibility and the greatest political instrument of the day. They had performed this crime behind the screen of and in nexus with Servants of the People Society (SoPS), of which, while breathing his last, Gopabandhu was the Vice-President. Read more →
