Subhas Chandra Pattanayak
Orissa is snatched off her jewel in journalism as Gopal Mishra breathed his last this evening in a private but referral Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Minimum ten years senior to me in this profession, he was very sharp and precise in application of his mind to every burning issue and noteworthy event of Orissa, but was always a man with a perfect sense of proportion.
Most dignified in personal dealings, he was embodiment of magnanimity that journalism stands for.
We worked together for trade union rights of working journalists and also parted our ways on difference in perception of labour activism; but despite this, he was such a person that this difference had never affected our mutual friendship.
His journalism was addressed to Orissa’s development. But dovetailed with it was Orissa’s culture.
It is, at the moment, impossible to find another Gopal Mishra in Orissa.
Journalism has lost an invaluable jewel.
