Orissa’s only official College of Music, Dance and Drama, Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, observes its annual day with a three-day long celebration of Jaya Dev Samaroh commencing from March 21 in its own campus.
Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University of Culture Prof. Debendranath Jena and the State Secretary of Culture Mr. Manoranjan Panigrahi graced the first day with their inspiring advices to the students and performing artists, Prof. Jena inaugurating the event.
Principal of USM Dr. Suman Das presided over the function that ended with splendid presentation of cultural events.
Under guidance of Guru Smt. Bharati Jena, students of Odissi Vocal wing Ms. Ananya, Suchismita, Sasmita, Archana, Diptimayee, Madhusmita, Sausmita, Aiswarya, Gitiprajna, Itishree, Smile, Anjali and Shraddhanjali rendered poet Lokanath Pattanayak’s KANA TU DERITHA BANSHI TANAKU GO in Rag Chandrakanti, Tal Jhampa. They also rendered poet Gopalakrushna’s KI NADARE PRANA SANGINEE in Rag Bhairabi, Tal Rupak.
The 2nd program was group rendition of Sitar by the students of the concerned department. Under Guru Sri Bhimasen Maharana, they first performed in Rag Malkosh with Tal Trital and later presented Dhun in Rag Misra and Tal Kahartta. These star students were Satyaban, Rakesh, Sagarika, Swaraj, Laxmipriya, Giridhari, Bandita, Anita, Itishree, Bishwanath and Sujata. Guru Sri Jitendra Kumar Behera gave the Tabla support.
The third item was Behela composed by Guru Sri Divyadarshan Biswal.
Lastly, Samir, Surendra, Siddheswar, Binayak, Bhagat, Tapan, Devi Harapriya, Minati, Monalisha, Sanghamitra, Mili, Suchismita, Ratnapadma, Jhansi and Suman of the Odissi Dance department mesmerized the hall with DASAVATARA and CHANDANA CHARCCHITA, Guru Sri Pradip Kumar Das adding charm to the renditions with his exquisite presentations.
