After Laxman Chaudhury was arrested by the Mohana Police alleging Maoist link, a delegation of journalists on behalf of Media Unity for Freedom of Press ( MUFP) had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and had informed him that police inspector Gouranga Mohanty, who had links with Ganja mafia and women traffickers had arrested Laxman, as in Sambad he had repeatedly exposed his shady deals.
Though the Chief Minister had assured that the RDC of Southern Division would probe into the allegations, no action was taken. However finally, MUFP and Laxman Chaudhury’s stand was vindicated.
Gouranga Mohanty Inspector-in-charge, Mohana PS, the officer who had arrested Laxman Choudhury on charges of having Maoist links, has been caught red-handed by the Vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a Ganja trader on Saturday.
Laxman had been saying that Mohanty was angry with him for reporting the officer’s direct involvement in Ganja trade.
MUFP would urge upon the Chief Minister to have a detail probe into the activities of inspector Mohanty and ensure exemplary action against him as well as higher officials who were shielding his crime, for their involvement/abetment in criminal activities and harassment to an honest and dutiful journalist like Laxman Chaudhury and to withdraw all the cases contrived against him by inspector Mohanty.
