WHY IS NAVIN PATNAIK SHYING AT CBI?

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Former secretary of National Union of Journalists, India, Sri Balbir Punj, who presently represents Orissa in the Rajyasabha, has demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the massive mining scam perpetrated and going on in Orissa under the reign of Navin Patnaik.

Punj, in his spot study of the scam in Keonjhar district, had led a team of BJP leaders that comprised also his colleague in Parliament, Sri Chandan Mitra, who like him is a Journalist turned politician with right wing attire.

The team made a spot estimation of loot of ores at Kashia, Chormaldar, Loidapada and Regudi where ESSEL, OMC and RBTL are nefariously involved and came out with facts too revealing to be refuted.

Not the Vigilance police that works under Navin Patnaik, but the CBI that runs not under Navin Patnaik should be asked to investigate so that the truth of loot may not be stopped from coming out, declared the BJP leaders.

But to Navin Patnaik, this is nothing but a political notoriety resorted to by BJP.

Punj and Mitra have gone to the spot and have made the allegation on the basis of what they have seen on the spot. Chief Minister Navin Patnaik has never visited the spot so far.

He obviously uses the State Vigilance in matter of the loot. The loot is so very discernible that the Vigilance Police is not able to say that there is no loot.

Now that admittedly there is loot, Navin should confess that in his regime the loot has occurred. But he has not done it so far.

As time passes, he looks murkier.

If he is to depend upon hearsay about the occurrence and / or non-occurrence of the loot, why should he not depend upon the CBI than the State Vigilance to know what really has happened?

The matter is so critical but delicate, even if the State Vigilance Police would act honestly and bring out details of the loot and the looters, people would sure look at that askance.

Therefore it is true that the Chief Minister by not accepting the demands for the inquiry by CBI, is dragging the State Vigilance to a state of forfeiture of its credibility.

Will the CM amend himself and entrust the investigation to CBI as demanded by Punj and Mitra?

ORISSA ADMINISTRATION: WHEN THE GOVERNOR IS ATTACKED THE GOVERNMENT KEEPS MUM!

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Orissa government is keeping mum when Amarikatha, a daily broadsheet preferred by the administration to spread official advertisements, has alleged that the Governor of the State has succumbed to bribe and bureaucratic design in appointing the Vice-Chancellor of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar for a fresh term in stark disregards to the UGC norms.

The paper has raised serious allegations against the conduct of the VC. According to it, D. P. Roy is not the real name of the VC. He was earlier Sambeta Devi Prasanna Rao, a compartmentally passed matriculate, who had entered into Agriculture course by using an allegedly fake intermediate certificate in science and in BSc (Agiculture), had got 14 F grade markings. It has alleged that for such poor result in the Bachelor level, he was refused admission to Masters in Agriculture in OUAT. While somehow doing his Masters at Kolkata, he changed his name to the present one by virtue of an affidavit. He had joined, the paper has further alleged, as an agriculture supervisor under the government, but could eventually succeed in equating this post with that of an Associate Professor and has cultivated an impression as a scholar by using others’ works through plagiarism. His first term as VC was marked for crores of rupees corruption about which allegations are sent to President Mrs. Prativa Patil, the paper has reported in its top-prioritized front page story on November 3, wherein it has alleged that despite being aware of this, the Governor has reappointed Roy as the second term VC obviously under suspected influence of corruption in oblivion of restriction imposed by UGC on reappointment of one person as VC in any university for two consecutive terms.

These allegations are grave in nature inasmuch as a VC of an University has been projected as a miscreant and more seriously, the Governor of the State, whom people have been showing love and respect, has been dragged into a controversial condition.

But astonishingly the VC as well as the State Government have kept mum over the report.

JOURNALISTS OF BHUBANESWAR PAY EPITAPHIC TRIBUTES TO GOPAL MISHRA

There are different organizations of Journalists stationed at Bhubaneswar. But they all were united on Tuesday evening to pay epitaphic tributes to deeply mourned Gopal Misra, who passed away in the evening of Sunday and whose cremation, witnessed by many a luminaries of Orissa, was performed at Swargadwara, the classic gateway to the abode of the gods, on the beach of Mahodadhi, wrongfully known as Bay of Bengal, at Puri, on Monday.

condolence meetingThe condolence meeting was held in the auditorium of the Department of Information with eminent journalist Barendrakrishna Dhal in the Chair. Under request of the scribes present, senior journalists Ramahari Mishra, Subhas Chandra Pattanayak, Rabi Das and Sarat Das were on the dais when Ramahari Mishra coordinated the event.

Ramesh Chandra Mohanty initiated the obituary when Barendrakrushna Dhal dwelt on how suave but strong was Mishra in his mission all through his life as a journalist. There was a time spanning at least two decades in the last century when he was regarded as the reigning luminary in Orissa media, but there was not a single moment, even then, when he had no time to come to the needs of the newcomers to the profession, he said.

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak focused on the professionalism he personified. Recalling his contributions to putting on records Chakradhar Mohapatra’s well researched determination of Orissa being the real birthplace of Buddha as well as Kavichandra Kalicharan Pattanayak’s meticulous endeavors to obtain recognition of Odissi as a classical dance, he said that Gopal Mishra was so sharp and quick in reporting critical issues by locating its crux as cautiously as consciously that for ever he would remain not only a poll star to follow but also a professional to imitate.

Rabi Das recalled Gopal Babu as a trendsetter in pro-people journalism even as to Sarat Das, were Mishra not there to organize his stay at Bhubaneswar in the initial days of his posting, he perhaps could not have ascended up to the bureau chief position of PTI in Orissa. This eagerness to help newcomer journalists in getting settled was a distinct part of Mishra’s way of life, he said.

the daisRamahari Mishra recalled his association with Gopal Babu prior to and after his joining Amrit Bazar Patrika. He cited instances to show how he was regarded as unquestionable as a journalist. He said that the sad demise would always give the journalists of Orissa a feeling of loss.

Prasanta Patnaik deeply mourned the sad demise. To him, Mishra was a man in whom journalism had blossomed into dignity. Commitment to profession and devotion to democracy had created the distinction that Mishra had personified, he said, while making specific suggestions on how the scribes of Orissa may make the bereavement bearable to the family of the late doyen.

Bimal Krushna Bhanj and Akshaya Pati described how the entire media community has been drowned in grief due to the sudden demise that has created a void hard to be filled up, when from his chair in the audience, Pradyumna Mohanty expressed deep dismay over failure of the ministers of the incumbent government in physically paying last respect gopal mishra last journeyto the departed scribe who till breathing his last was active in the fourth estate of democracy.

(Gopal Mishra’s last contribution as a columnist, published in the daily Sambad at the end of the night he passed away, was speakingly critical of the style of administration of the Orissa Ministry that was, on the one hand, irresponsive to SOS cries of the farmers, but on the other hand, over eager to serve the multi-national corporations. This perhaps explains the absence of Orissa ministers from paying individual and / or collective respect to the departed scribe who by choice had preferred this profession to serve the people.)

The former and founder Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Dr. Jagannath Mohapatra recalled the unique joie de vivre that Mishra personified despite his being in his entirety a dedicated sentinel of the State.

A close relation of Mishra, R.N.Dash, who happens to be the Secretary of the Information Department, recalled from his personal memories how affectionate was Gopal babu and how averse was he to falsehood and hypocrisy.

Gopal Mishra Breathed His Last: Lost is a Jewel of Journalism

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Orissa is snatched off her jewel in journalism as Gopal Mishra breathed his last this evening in a private but referral Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Minimum ten years senior to me in this profession, he was very sharp and precise in application of his mind to every burning issue and noteworthy event of Orissa, but was always a man with a perfect sense of proportion.

Most dignified in personal dealings, he was embodiment of magnanimity that journalism stands for.

We worked together for trade union rights of working journalists and also parted our ways on difference in perception of labour activism; but despite this, he was such a person that this difference had never affected our mutual friendship.

His journalism was addressed to Orissa’s development. But dovetailed with it was Orissa’s culture.

It is, at the moment, impossible to find another Gopal Mishra in Orissa.

Journalism has lost an invaluable jewel.

Journalist Gopal Mishra passes away

Eminent journalist Gopal Mishra is no more, but the power and conviction of his pen that touched millions of Oriyas shall be always missed.

A journalist and columnist of national repute, Mr Mishra had served the collective conscience of the country for over 50 years. For his invaluable contributions, he was bestowed with many prestigious awards and recognition during his lifetime, including “Sambadika Gourab” and “Udaynath Sarangi Award”.

Orissamatters deeply mourns the great and irreparable loss, and conveys heartfelt condolence to his bereaved family members and to his beloved readers.

Oriya Language created Orissa and therefore Orissa must be ruled by Oriya Language

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seems to have developed a wrong notion that governance of Orissa in Oriya depends upon his mercy. His press-note of December 17 and full page display advertisement in major broadsheets of today force us to arrive at this apprehension.

In his December 17 press note it was declared that he had held a meeting with the five members of the ministerial committee on that day for the purpose of “strictly implementing the Orissa Official Language Act, 1954 in official and non-official level” to facilitate which a website has been floated by the government. In the full page multi-color advertisement in broadsheet dailies today, this is intriguingly missing.

The advertisement is designed to tell the people that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken historical steps to save and develop Oriya language, and has enumerated the steps he has taken. This is blatant lie. Neither he nor his government has executed any single item claimed to be “historical” in the official advertisement. The entire advertisement is nothing but false propaganda. What a shame it is, that, the people of Orissa are taken for granted by their Chief Minister! Read more →

Navakalevara: Legends and reality

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Legends are the most misguiding mischief aimed at superimposing lies on reality so that indigenous people of an occupied land are kept too dazzled to see the dark face of the rulers and the class of exploiters can keep its victims subjugated to its authority, while forcing them to forget the heroic history of evolution of their own philosophy of life, their own splendid spiritual realizations, their own socio-economic uniqueness, their own ancient culture, their own valorous past, their own way of social integration and their own civilization.

We see this mischief galore in the context of Navakalevara of SriJagannatha.

So, here, we are to rip apart the legends and bring the reality of the Navakalevara to light, as thereby alone we can reach the lost uniqueness of the people of Orissa.

We will use Puri Sankaracharya’s self-proclaimed authority over Navakalevara to proceed with our purpose.

Samaja in Maze of Forgery: Two former Ministers of Orissa – Lingaraj Mishra & Radhanath Rath forged the WILL of Gopabandhu; Both benefitted till their death; SoPS continues to Loot

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

The Oriya daily SAMAJA founded by late Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, to which, out of their love and reverence for the great humanitarian leader, the people of Orissa had and have been giving their financial and moral support, is in a menacing maze of forgery and loot.

Sadly, two of Gopabandhu’s trusted men – Lingaraj Mishra and Radhanath Rath – who, because of being known so, had the opportunity of becoming cabinet ministers in Orissa, were the masterminds and/or makers of the forgery from which the paper is yet to be salvaged.

Both of them – Lingaraj and Radhanath – had partnered with each other in forging the last WILL of Gopabandhu to grab the Samaja, which being Gopabandhu’s paper was of superb credibility and the greatest political instrument of the day. They had performed this crime behind the screen of and in nexus with Servants of the People Society (SoPS), of which, while breathing his last, Gopabandhu was the Vice-President. Read more →
