I perused the great book THE CROOKED TIMBAR OF NEW INDIA, authored by Parakala Prabhakar, well known political economist and commentator.
“A new era began in May 2014, or so we were told ……But India is, in fact, facing a crisis. Our polity, society and economy are broken. The signs are all around us”, he has told with speaking analysis in this book.
He has noted how Prime Minister Modi had pronounced mantras in his Independent Day address on 15 August 2022 styled ‘Panch Prann’, which, he had declared, would regenerate our nation. But, “they were vague declarations, grand and hollow”, Sri Prabhakar has said. “They only serve to deflect our attention from the very real crises our Republic is facing today – rising inequality, communal hate, unacceptable levels of unemployment, a broken public health system, a messed-up economy and crony capitalism of a kind and magnitude that we have never seen before.”
The Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman is the wife of Sri Prabhakar.
