Oriya University is the necessity, not an Open University

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak
ama bhasa ama rajabhasaLanguage activists of Orissa under the banner of Oriya Bhasa Sangram Samiti have been demanding for a University entirely dedicated to creation Oriya manpower to manage all offices and workplaces and centers of public concerns in and relating to governance of Orissa in Oriya language and to make Oriya Language the language of earning, besides superintending education in Oriya Language in every stage.

Government had agreed. But shockingly, the Chief Minister has tried to divert attention from the Oriya University to an Oriya Open University. The Oriya Bhasa Sangram Samiti is opposed to this drift.

Invitation LetterIn spite of this, the government has proceeded to have a workshop on creation of the Oriya Open University and invited the representatives of the Samiti in the ministerial Committee to participate in the workshop. It would be held at 10 AM on 29th this month.

“Rotten Constitution” – This Observation had made the President of Constituent Assembly a bit Nervous

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

In Constituent Assembly of India, on 17 October 1049, Prof. Shibban Lal Saksena had proposed to amend the Preamble of our Constitution by substituting the draft with the following:

‘In the name of God the Almighty, under whose inspiration and guidance, the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, led the Nation from slavery into Freedom, by unique adherence to the eternal principles of Satya and Ahimsa, and who sustained the millions of our countrymen and the martyrs of the Nation in their heroic and unremitting struggle to regain the Complete Independence of our Motherland,

We, the People of Bharat, having solemnly resolved to constitute Bharat into a Sovereign, Independent, Democratic, Socialist Republic, and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political,
LIBERTY of though, expression, belief, faith and worship,
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all;
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity and freedom of the individual and the unity of the country and the Nation:

In our Constituent Assembly this;……..day of Vikrami Samvat 2006 (the 26th day of January, 1950 A.D.) do hereby enact, adopt and give to ourselves this Constitution’”.

He was strongly opposed by Shri Brajeshwar Prasad who said,

“I rise to oppose the amendment moved by my friend Prof. Shibban Lal Saksena.

I do not want that the name of Mahatma Gandhi should be incorporated in this Constitution, because it is not a Gandhian Constitution.

The foundation stones of this Constitution are the decisions of the American Supreme Court.

It is the Government of India Act, 1935, repeated again.

If we had a Gandhian Constitution, I would have been the first to offer my support.

I do not want that the name of Mahatma Gandhi should be dragged into the rotten Constitution.

Action against State Bank of India Necessary for Wrongful Disposal of Netaji’s Ashes

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

my article title, 18.4.1996

The above was the caption of my column dated 18 April 1996 in Orissa’s mainstream major daily ‘The Sambad’ in which I had exposed how the Manager of State Bank of India, Cuttack, who was a Bengali by birth, was conspiring to dispose off Netaji’s funeral ashes in the name of Gandhiji. No news reporter, but photographer of a local daily, also a Bengali, was calculatedly used to spread that Gandhiji’s ashes were lying abandoned in the said branch of SBI since 1950s. Soon the said contrived news hit the headlines without any investigation on factuality thereof.

This misleading news prompted Gandhiji’s great grandson Tushar Arun Gandhi to claim the ashes for immersion.

ISKCON mischief: Unseen aspects more horrifying

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Authorities have been forced by the heroic people of Orissa to impose a stay on construction of reported Jagannath temple by ISKCON in SriKshetra Puri. But the mischief has not died.

Political heavyweight Bijay Mohapatra, who could not be the President of BJP’s Orissa State Unit as he has no RSS origin, exposed an ISKCON design drawn up to vitiate Puri with a 2nd temple of SriJagannath. This instantly ignited massive public protests, wherein non-BJPans pursuing absolutely apolitical life were also seen most vociferous.

To us Oriyas, Sri Jagannath of Srikshetra Puri is not simply a deity. He is epitome of the history of our evolution. He is epitome of our collective wisdom. He is remembrancer of our ancient consciousness. He is the greatest son of our soil Buddha in an image we worship. He is the strongest alternative that Orissa had created against anti-people Vedic imperialism. He is the uniqueness of Oriya race. He is the last remnant of our unique MAHODADHI CIVILISATION. He is the first and the last phenomenon in Oriya life. Any transgression into His uniqueness was, therefore, not tolerable to Oriya race.

President of India ought to appreciate that Bharat Ratna is not meant for offenders like Biju Patnaik

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

If the President of India rises above being Pranab Mukherjee – the man who collaborated with Manmohan Singh to subjugate India to American hegemony – and acts as expected of India’s President, I am sure, he will reject the demand for Bharat Ratna to Biju Patnaik.

President of India, being the Supreme Commander of Indian military, is entitled to peruse the privy records of why India had to accept defeat in Chinese aggression and all reports of enquiry related thereto. Before granting the demand for Bharat Ratna to Biju Patnaik, if he does it, a new and grave offense against the country designed to be perpetrated with Bharat Ratna to Biju may not materialize. Will he do?

We find from ‘Himalayan Blunder’ of Brig. John Delvi that India lost more than 11000 square kilometers of her land to China in the 1962 war, because of lack of basic essentials like warm clothing, snow boots, and glasses.

From Lok Sabha Debates (V) (1967) [7980-7990], we find that we had to suffer this loss, because of the treachery of Biju Patnaik.

Oriya Language created Orissa and therefore Orissa must be ruled by Oriya Language

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seems to have developed a wrong notion that governance of Orissa in Oriya depends upon his mercy. His press-note of December 17 and full page display advertisement in major broadsheets of today force us to arrive at this apprehension.

In his December 17 press note it was declared that he had held a meeting with the five members of the ministerial committee on that day for the purpose of “strictly implementing the Orissa Official Language Act, 1954 in official and non-official level” to facilitate which a website has been floated by the government. In the full page multi-color advertisement in broadsheet dailies today, this is intriguingly missing.

The advertisement is designed to tell the people that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken historical steps to save and develop Oriya language, and has enumerated the steps he has taken. This is blatant lie. Neither he nor his government has executed any single item claimed to be “historical” in the official advertisement. The entire advertisement is nothing but false propaganda. What a shame it is, that, the people of Orissa are taken for granted by their Chief Minister! Read more →

Navakalevara: Legends and reality

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Legends are the most misguiding mischief aimed at superimposing lies on reality so that indigenous people of an occupied land are kept too dazzled to see the dark face of the rulers and the class of exploiters can keep its victims subjugated to its authority, while forcing them to forget the heroic history of evolution of their own philosophy of life, their own splendid spiritual realizations, their own socio-economic uniqueness, their own ancient culture, their own valorous past, their own way of social integration and their own civilization.

We see this mischief galore in the context of Navakalevara of SriJagannatha.

So, here, we are to rip apart the legends and bring the reality of the Navakalevara to light, as thereby alone we can reach the lost uniqueness of the people of Orissa.

We will use Puri Sankaracharya’s self-proclaimed authority over Navakalevara to proceed with our purpose.

Samaja in Maze of Forgery: Two former Ministers of Orissa – Lingaraj Mishra & Radhanath Rath forged the WILL of Gopabandhu; Both benefitted till their death; SoPS continues to Loot

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

The Oriya daily SAMAJA founded by late Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, to which, out of their love and reverence for the great humanitarian leader, the people of Orissa had and have been giving their financial and moral support, is in a menacing maze of forgery and loot.

Sadly, two of Gopabandhu’s trusted men – Lingaraj Mishra and Radhanath Rath – who, because of being known so, had the opportunity of becoming cabinet ministers in Orissa, were the masterminds and/or makers of the forgery from which the paper is yet to be salvaged.

Both of them – Lingaraj and Radhanath – had partnered with each other in forging the last WILL of Gopabandhu to grab the Samaja, which being Gopabandhu’s paper was of superb credibility and the greatest political instrument of the day. They had performed this crime behind the screen of and in nexus with Servants of the People Society (SoPS), of which, while breathing his last, Gopabandhu was the Vice-President. Read more →
